Early Learning and Childcare
Funded by the Scottish Government through your local authority, high quality early learning and childcare helps give your little one the best possible start. It will help with your child’s language and social skills, encouraging them to learn through play with other children.
At Happy Feet Nursery, all 3 and 4 year olds, and around a quarter of 2 year olds can get up to 1140 hours of Early Learning and Childcare, funded by the Scottish Government.
Eligible 2yr old Funding
Some 2yr old children are entitled to a free place in a nursery and the eligibility criteria is as follows:
• Children who have been looked-after* by a foster carer or a family member at any time since their 2nd birthday
• Children who come from households – Families seeking work and are in receipt of the following benefits or credits:
• Universal Credit and your household take-home pay based on a threshold**
• Child Tax Credit, but not Working Tax Credit and based on an income threshold**
• Child Tax Credit and Working Tax Credit and based on an income threshold**
• Income Support (IS)
• Job Seekers Allowance (JSA income based)
• Any income related element of Employment and Support Allowance
Incapacity or Severe Disablement Allowance
• State Pension Credit
• Support under part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
* This includes looked after by a local council, the subject of a kinship care order and the subject of a guardianship order.

If you receive tax credits or universal credit, then you can earn a certain amount of money and still be eligible.
If you are on Child Tax Credit:
• but not Working Tax Credit, then your earnings can be £16,105 or less
• and Working Tax Credit, then your earnings can be £7,320 a year or less
If you are on Universal Credit, then your household take-home pay can be £610 a month or less.
Once your child qualifies for Eligible 2yr old ELC, they will stay qualified even if you get a job, or their situation with a parent or carer changes.
3yr and 4yr old Funding
All 3 & 4yr olds are entitled to 1140hrs. The current eligibility criteria for ELC is:
Children who are 3yrs old between 1 March and 31 August are eligible for 1140hrs funded placement from mid-August 2020.
If your child’s birthday falls between 1st September and 28th February, your child will receive their funding entitlement on the Monday following their 3rd birthday.
